Svenska Generalkonsulatets pressrelease:

Dance Screen Sweden – The New Mix Presented at Scandinavia House

On June 1, 2009, Dance Screen Sweden – The New Mix, an event presenting some of the best Swedish dance films, will be organized at Scandinavia House. The event will feature a screening followed by a panel discussion moderated by Deirdre Towers, Artistic Director, Dance Films Association, with Christina Molander, General and Artistic Director, Moderna Dansteatern and SHOOT – Dance for Screen and Pontus Lidberg, Swedish choreographer praised by The New York Times for his film The Rain and his collaboration with Christopher Wheeldon.

Swedish dance has for many years been internationally recognized with several prestigious awards including the Golden Reel: Best Dance Short for Pontus Lidberg’s The Rain at the Tiburon International Film Festival, best video for Petter Jacobsson's and Tom Caley's film Paradise? in Zürich and best art work for Cristina Caprioli’s 2soon at Dance Screen London. Dance Screen Sweden merges film and dance into a modern form of creative art, a field in which Sweden has excelled since the 1960s. Dance film shorts, which have become increasingly popular of late, introduce inspiring ways of working with form, composition, rhythm, light and sound.

Christina Molander has together with the Swedish Institute chosen a selection of innovative Swedish dance films that use different creative solutions in the process of filmmaking. Some participating choreographers include: Pontus Lidberg, Bogdan Szyber & Carina Reich, Gunilla Heilborn and Cristina Caprioli. Among the photographers and producers are Mårten Nilsson, Ralph Evers and Jonas Åkerlund, who has worked with Madonna, Metallica, Christina Aguilera, and U2.

This event is organized by Dance Films Association, the Swedish Institute, the Consulate General of Sweden in New York and Moderna Dansteatern and SHOOT – Dance for Screen, and will be followed by a reception hosted by the Consulate General of Sweden in New York.
